Retaining wall block calculator
Count blocks, caps, base stone, drain stone and geogrid for a segmental block wall from its length, its height and the size of your block.
Estimate, not engineering. Block instructions, local code and an engineer where required take precedence.

Where the numbers come from.
Is this an engineering design?
No. It estimates quantities, and every figure is a rule of thumb. It shows an engineer note when the wall is taller than the height you set, which starts at 4 feet. Check your block’s manual and your local code.
Where do the defaults come from?
One buried course is the usual start, and Allan Block asks for at least 6 inches of block below grade. Geogrid layers start at the first course and repeat every second course, following Allan Block’s estimating guidance; the 60 percent grid length is a starting point only. Block and cap waste is 5 to 10 percent, so it starts at 7.5. The stone allowance and stone weight use the same ranges as the paver calculator.
