Where the numbers come from.

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is a percent of your cost. Margin is a percent of your price. A 20 percent margin needs a 25 percent markup, and a 30 percent margin needs a 42.9 percent markup. Some vendor articles call a markup a margin, so check which one a number means.

What counts as a billable hour?

Leave out time off, callbacks, breakdowns, weather, office time and yard time. If they are counted, your overhead per hour comes out too low.

Where do the numbers come from?

Nothing here is a default: your wage, burden, overhead and billable hours are yours to enter. The method follows Aspire’s man-hour pricing article, which adds overhead per labor hour to the burdened wage and then adds profit. The markup and margin explanation follows Jobber’s pricing article.
